In the old days there were no auomatic washers and dryers. There was however a wringer washer and you dryed your clothes by hanging them up on a thin rope, called a clothes line! This was how they dryed their clothes. My mom took great pride in hanging out our wash. So funny, now days we would die before letting anyone see our underwear hanging out in the breeze.ha. So here is a story that is about hanging out the clothes and judging.
A young couple moved into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they were eating breakfast , the young woman saw her neighbor hanging the wash outside. That laundry is not very clean, she said. She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap. Her husband looked on but remained silent. Everytime her neighbor would hang her wash to dry , the young woman would make the same comments. About one month later the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her huband, Look! finally she has learned how to wash correctly!! I wonder who taught her. The husband said ," I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows". And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the window through which we look. No one sees our wash now days but I do remember my mother hanging out the wash every wk. People loved and took pride in the fresh smell of their clean clothes hanging on the line in the bright sun!
We certainly are spoiled today, and doing the wash has become a breeze! ha!
Here I am , expecting my first child Valerie and hanging clothes out to dry! Thank goodness for modern technol0logy! Such was the way of life back then. mama
