Yikes! A FIRE!!!
Well, yesterday was a crazy day to say the least! I was making cookies and after they had been in oven for say 10 mins. and without warning a fire starts in the oven. Don't totally get WHY? Dad was thinking about it and now thinks the broiler may have been the problem. Just making cookies shouldn't cause that kind of fire. I mean the flames were pretty darn high. I opened the oven door and when air hit it Boom.... it really went up in flames! I tryed to grab the cookie sheet with a kitchen towel but was having a hard time cause of flames. Jen ran and got the fire extinguisher and shot it into the oven and then grabed the cookie sheet with a towel and took it outside and pitched it on ground. Wow! I thought, so this is how house fires start. Yikes!
The next step was not a easy one either and that was getting all that smoke out of the house. First we had to leave the door shut on oven and let all cool down and see what we needed to do to get the smoke cleared out of the house.
We opened windows and turned fans on and opened doors but it took a long long time to get the smell out..actually it lingered even the next day... went to bed smelling some of that smoke. Wicked fire for sure!!Be careful folks ....it totally was unbelievable that all that from just a few baked cookies. Been cooking on this stove forever! ugh! Joey was in his shed the whole time Jen and I were fighting this fire....so after got the fire out I told Jen I will go tell her dad now....I didn't wanta at beginning thinking he would just yell at me so went out and said don't yell or get upset but we have a problem in the house. He was very good and stayed calm . Yay! I have to say he thoroughly checked everything out and even thought at first that our stove was done for and we would have to buy another. He checked it later after it totally cooled down and said I think its gonna work except for broiler. Have to say that man can fix anything! Inside was a total charcoal mess and even after it had totally cooled off the next day he went and cleaned it out inside for me. That was not a easy task. He knows I can't bend to do it cause would maybe cause my vertigo to come back. He was very calm in threw it all and we are now back in business except for a broiler which doesn't work anymore but not sure that even matters.
