The Grocery Getter!

With Seven children getting groceries was a big deal!  We were a big family for those days for sure but even had some neighbors that also had a big family.  Can pretty much say no one much has that many children anymore.  One lady even went as far as to say "Are you a glutton for punishment."
Well I had never had anyone say that to me before so it kinda stayed there in my head.   Actually those days of raising children were quite happy days!  The moments of smiles and laughter were enough to carry you through into another day.
The days of children back then were quite different as to how the kids spent their day. There were no cell phones , no netflick ....our kids spent most of all their time outdoors.    Kids made up their fun from playing school to skating to riding bikes , playing hide and seek in evenings and doing alot of outdoor stuff.
Now to the subject of our grocery getter! I sometimes took alot of them to the grocery store with me but most times dad would volunteer to watch many of them at home while I shopped.  He never complained and was a great helper!  A hands on dad for sure.  Anyway we had a
1957 Buick StationWagon which Angie gave it the name the "Grocery Getter"  makes since to a  young kid who rode in it mostly to just go get groceries.  That name stuck forever until we got rid of it but yes thats what it was called in those early years for a very long time!  Funny how kids come up with the cutest things that just stick.

Here we are preparing the grocery getter for a trip to Indiana!
