Southern Gentleman/Are they almost extinct

I was checking out my email this morning and heard a comment that Stacey had made that you don't often hear these days.  She used the word that  Steve was a Southern Gentleman!   I thought what a nice comment!  I haven't  heard that  used for ages. I also thought of Dad and how once a lady at church told me" "Dottie, your husband is a real gentleman."  It kind of caught me off guard , but I thought how nice and had to agree. yes he is.  I believe dads  mother taught him well, I think he also really had great respect for his mom.   He has always treated women with the upmost respect.  Even my sister Sarah who lived across the street from his family made the comment that dad's mother Evalyn was an elect lady!   Well, after looking up what makes up a gentleman, dad does fit the mold as I am sure Steve, Randy and Todd all do.  Here is what I have learned that are attributes of a Gentleman.

A Real Southern Gentleman first and formost treats you with the same respect at home as he does out in public.

they are  responsible
they give good hand shakes
they have no problem with sharing
they open doors for you
they don't embarrass you  in public
they offer you their seat
they are polite
they care about your happiness
they are always willing to help if they can

I have to add that once when Todd was a  young man and we were shopping together this lady coming out of the store, had her arms full of groceries.  Todd immediately said "here let me help you with that "which he preceded to do.  The lady turned to Todd and thanked him and said "your mother raised a fine boy." He was proud but not as much as I was!

Randy has also done the same, always helping out someone , always a gentleman. dad  and I have always been proud of the boys and how they treat not only woman but everyone with respect.  I was even  told by a lady at our church who Randy  helped  with her computer, " you really do have a nice son." again I was proud.   What mother doesn't want to hear that kind of comment of her children! You just stop and realize it really was worth it!!!
