The Big Cypress Tree

As some of you might know just recently the giant tree called the Senator burned down. Thats what it was called in the old days and today it was known as" Big Tree Park" located in Longwood. A big attraction here in central fl. area. It had stood for 3500 yrs. and it was majestic to look at. It was a sad day for everyone when it burned this month. Would loved to had taken my grandsons to see it. Its still not known how it burned.

Many of you know we also have this giant oak tree right here in the middle of the road near our home. It is what you notice right away if you drive into our neighborhood. I am at awe how big these things grow, how majestic they are!! I found this poem that tells a story of the Giant Oak Tree which could relate to us!

The Oak Tree
by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr.

A mighty wind blew night and day.
It stole the Oak Tree's leaves away.
Then snapped its boughs
and pulled its bark
until the Oak was tired and stark.

But still the Oak Tree held its ground
while other trees fell all around.
The weary wind gave up and spoke,
"How can you still be standing Oak?"

The Oak Tree said, I know that you
can break each branch of mine in two,
carry every leaf away,
shake my limbs and make me sway.

But I have roots stretched in the earth,
growing stronger since my birth.
You'll never touch them, for you see
they are the deepest part of me.

Until today, I wasn't sure
of just how much I could endure.
But now I've found with thanks to you,
I'm stronger than I ever knew.
