MINI VACATION

Spanish Point, Robbi's Reef & the Jetties

Frankie , Donna and I went to my brothers home for a mini vacation in Nikomic FL.    He was a great host and we had a really nice time.  Sooo relaxing getting away from the regular routine of everyday life. ha. Everynight we set by the pool talking about the good old days. Thanks Bump. I  know he had to have lots of patience listening to us old ladies chatting away everyday. ha!


Historic Spanish Point is a 30-acre museum and environmental complex located in Osprey, Florida.



 Robbi's Reef  ,  just a little hole in the wall resturant that bump loves to eat at.



In 1910 Bertha Palmer made her first impact on Sarasota history and on the Spanish Point homestead. The Chicago socialite and widow of Potter Palmer came to Sarasota to establish a winter estate. She purchased thousands of acres for cattle ranching, citrus groves, and real estate development. The Webb homestead was part of the land she chose for her 350-acre estate which she named “Osprey Point.” She preserved the pioneer buildings and connected them with lavish formal gardens and lawns.

A Little Ray Of Sunshine!

A New Fence Goes Up

 Beautiful!!

Well here is a picture of the new fence that was put up in back yard by our new neighbors.  I am for sure a happy camper!!  been wanting that old fence gone for along time now.  Dad just a few days ago said "Dottie Come Here" so I hurried into the sunroom wondering what the heck, and YAY!  there was the new fence going up. NICE NICE SURPRISE!  The house had been empty unknown to us and I had just said the week before, "need to talk to the neighbors dad and see who owns that fence."  It really did need to come down.   Now the only thing is, we just met our new neighbors and had nice time chatting with them and now will miss that cause fence is too high and can't even see them. They also have a dog and Kathy[new neighbor] said she walks her dog around my block so that might help. ha. 

Sweet Note by My Grandaughter

Kristen and I have spent lots of time together over the years. I started keeping care of her when she was just a baby in arms. We have video's of her and the girls growing up together.  Now days she spends the night on occasion and we talk about her life and spend our days going shopping, hitting a few thrift stores, out to eat at McD's.  As the years have passed we have always lived close to each other and she has spent many a night here at our house playing with Maggie , baking cookies , watching movies together, having pillow talk, just having fun time together.  She will always be a big part of our lives.

FAMILY FIRST

My grandaughter said to me the other night  FAMILY SHOULD COME FIRST!  while talking about why her family should spend more time together.  I thought  Wow, out of the mouth of babes.

  
The church actually came out with this video titled just that "Family First."
And then i thought of the quote that my daughter Angie told me she remembered one day that came to her out of the blue which was quoted in the church years ago by a prophet of God/ Harold B. Lee.
 " The most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own home." 

Living the standards actually  make good mortar for those building blocks in raising a family. May we all try to achieve a higher standard of living for our families and those that will follow in our footsteps by following the Savior's teachings!

Home Evening in 1983

Every Monday night we had what we called" Family Home Evening" / the kids enjoyed this growing up and for sure whenever i came up with a really good dessert afterwards. Yummy!
The church still has Family Home Evening and its still on Monday nights.  I would come up with a very short lesson [kids can't set too long] which the kids helped me with and then we would do some fun things and of course the dessert at the end.  One night I had them write down on paper some things that we could do to help each other in the family. Here was how the list went and of course some of the older ones came up with silly remarks. here what i found .
Give us an allowance and we will pay tithing on it!
Lock us in the shed!
Don't tattle tail!
Sleep alot!
 Stay outside!
Don't pay much attention to the person your mad at!
Give Val a hug and kiss!
Be good to each other!
Obey parents!

I have no idea who wrote these ,  but found these on little pieces of paper we had for  home evening as i was cleaning so decided to blog them.
Might be fun to guess who wrote what?  No names were on them. If anyone remembers lyou wrote one then let me know.

Building Self Esteem in your Child!

What i have learned about raising children:

Kids love to be disciplined [ they will feel secure and know you care]
Take interest in your child's life
Attend school mtgs. or church mt. with them.
Notice and develope their talents and back them.
Back them on the things they enjoy doing.
Get involved, drive them there, make treats , go to activity with them and games.
Build them up / tell them what a great job they did, but be honest.  If not tell them they gave it a super good try!
Let them know they are special!
Be interested in their progress!

Seven Wonders of My World

Well here am i with my seven wonders!  I used to keep a scrapbook of the family circus years ago and one day got rid of it.  I did some touch up work on this one so it would come out as five girls and two boys! Even went the extra mile to draw on hair on some . haha.  But yes, been ask many times, How Did You Do It?  Well I feel same as the mama here, i don't divide it , i multiply it. 
 I do love  each and every one of them. no matter what!

Old Best Friends

Let's become little old ladies together- we'll stay up late looking at old pictures, telling "remember when" stories, and laughing till our sides ache. Let's become eccentric together- the kind of old ladies who take long walks, wear silly hats, and get away with acting outrageous in public places. And if anybody should ask how long we've been friends, we'll say, "Oh, forever - since before you were even born!" Let's become little old ladies together- because a friendship that's as special as ours can only grow better through the years. thought this so cute.

Been thinking about old age alot lately.   Donna went and got her hair dyed this pass week, I dyed my own and we think this is very important and will somehow fool people as to our age. Like sure! ha.  then we talk about those old people , like thats not us. No way! ha.  Funny how we fool ourself into believing we aren't really that old YET!!haha.

For sure we are aging , I'm getting heavy and o my , dad wearing suspenders! ha.  we both have changed alot over the years but now we give each other room to keep growing and to do the things that bring us joy.   Time is not slowing down and even seems to be going faster every day. .
 One day we will be but a memory to the next generation. 
Kind of funny but you never really think much about the fact that you really are that old!!
Only when you look into the mirror. ha.  yikes!

 These two guys have been best buds forever! Even growing up together they played together,  learned to swim together, did most everything together right up till they reached  adulthood. Yes, they were inseparable and loving life. .I love you guy's so stay close forever cause their really isn't anything that should ruin a great friendship like your, nothing! 
Because you are young and still learning about life , keep that friendship strong!
  lessons learned in life should never separate friends!

For none of us our perfect and who can't use a best friend!

My Soon to be Beautiful Flower Garden!

This is my little circle to tend to from now on.  Sarah died and actually never did anything with it and the spruce tree was ugly so i up rooted it and here is picture of what i have done so far. Plan to have it full of flowers one day. takes a little work and money.ha.  It will be beautiful one day!
